CHAMBERS BAY GOLF COURSE
CHAMBERS BAY GOLF COURSE, WASHINGTON STATE'S ANSWER TO ST. ANDREWS
By Ken Liebeskind
Yalesville, Connecticut
University Place, WA, near Tacoma, an hour south of Seattle is home to the Chambers Bay Golf Course, a Robert Trent Jones II design that was voted the best new course in 2007 by Golf Magazine and will host the U.S. Open in 2015 and the U.S. Amateur Championships this year.
Chambers Bay Golf Course offers a spectacular links style layout on a stretch of rolling, sandy land on Chambers Bay with the Puget Sound in the background. The course features dunes, native grasses and elevation changes, with holes framed by sandy waste areas. It's a spectacular links style walking only course, so get ready for a vigorous walk as you play. And it's a muni, so it's open to the public at reasonable rates (higher, of course, for non-residents of Pierce County).

The first hole at the Chambers Bay Golf Course is called Puget Sound, because it plays along the Sound. It's a long par 4 - 498 yards that set the tone for the long par 72 course that plays 7,585 yards from the back or teal tees. The first hole shares its fairway with the 18th, like the Old Course at St. Andrews. The 18th is a 604 yard par 5, the longest hole on the course with a tee shot played over a shallow sandy area along a 40 foot concrete structure known as the sorting bins.
….With all these long holes at the Chambers Bay Golf Course, you'd best be equipped with a long distance driver. www.scientificgolfclubs.com has the answer - the Controller 460cc driver with a max size club head coated with an armor piercing metal once used on military missiles that is twice as hard as steel and 70 percent harder than titanium. That's right, this extra hard driver can turn par 4s into 3s and 5s into 4s, setting you up for eagle putts!
This is the club a long ball champ said is the best driver he's used in over 20 years of pummeling long distance drives. Meanwhile, average golfers report drives 20 to 40 yards longer. It's the driver to use on long courses, like the Chambers Bay Golf Course.
