Chicago's best public golf course is Pine Meadow Golf Course, located about an hour and half from downtown Chicago in Mundelein. The course was rated America's best new public golf course by Golf Digest in 1986 and it continues to reward golfers with its picturesque beauty and challenging golf.
Pine Meadow Golf Course lies on 230 acres of preserved wildlife land, making it one of the most expansive courses in the nation. 250 year old oak trees, 60 foot pines, maples and hickories border the fairways. The course plays 7,238 yards from the tips with five sets of tees, so it's playable for all skill levels.

There's only one water hazard on the front side of Pine Meadow Golf Course, on the left side of the 418 yard par 4 3rd hole. The back nine is another story with water coming into play on almost every hole, starting with 10, a short par 4 with water on the left side of the green. On the 11th tee, water is front and left. 14 is a short dogleg left par 4 with water down the right the length of the hole. 15 is a long 448 yard par 4 that doglegs left and 18 is a signature hole, a 405 par 4 with water to the right that calls for a drive placed to the left center of the fairway. Water also protects the right front of the green, so a careful approach is necessary.
