SWEETGRASS GOLF CLUB
FOR GREAT GOLF ON MICHIGAN'S UPPER PENINSULA IT'S THE
SWEETGRASS GOLF CLUB
By Ken Liebeskind
Yalesville, Connecticut
Golf on the upper Michigan peninsula received a big boost with the opening of the Sweetgrass Golf Club at the Island Resort & Casino. The Harris, MI course, owned and operated by the Hannahville Band of the Potawatomi Nation, plays across dunes and windswept hills, with plenty of water hazards. It's 7,275 yards from the tips with a rating of 75.2 and a slope of 143, but there's five tee boxes, making it accessible to all levels of play.
The 15th hole, a 168 yard par 3, plays to an island green, making it the signature hole. But it faces stiff competition from 9 and 18, two long par 5s that run parallel to each other along a tiered pond with a shared green.
