By Ken Liebeskind
Yalesville, Connecticut
North Carolina is home to a range of great golf courses and one of the best available for public play is the Tanglewood Park Champion's Course in Clemmons, near Winston Salem. The Tanglewood Park Champion's Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones in 1956, was the site of the 1974 PGA Championship, when Lee Trevino squeaked by Jack Nicklaus. It has been consistently ranked in the top 25 nationally by Golf Digest and was voted the number 1 public course in North Carolina by North Carolina Magazine.
The Tanglewood Park Champion's Course plays to a par 72 at 7,018 yards long with 74.5 rating and a slope of 140. The Bermuda grass fairways are lined with pine trees, but offer generous landing areas, with undulating, tiered bent grass greens. Ninety bunkers dot the course and virtually every fairway is bracketed with a reddish-hued sand cavern.

The signature hole at the Tanglewood Park Champion's Course is the 424 yard par 4 14th that requires a tee shot from an elevated tee and an approach shot to an elevated green surrounded by bunkers. The 5th hole is a long par 5 that plays 614 yards from the championship tees with a series of fairway bunkers on the right side and a large green surrounded by traps. The home hole at the Tanglewood Park Champion's Course features a sweeping right-bending dogleg up the hill with a natural amphitheater setting.
If you're looking for a great driver to play the long par 5 holes at Tanglewood Park Champion's Course check out the Controller 460cc Driver from www.scientificgolfclubs.com. The max size club head is accentuated with an armor piercing coating made from M70 metal that was once used on military missiles. The club head is twice as hard as steel and 70 percent harder than titanium, which adds 20 to 40 yards to the drives of average golfers and prompted a long ball champ to state it's the best driver he's used in more than 20 years of hitting booming drives.
The Controller 460cc Driver comes with a 45 1/2 inch 69-gram high-fiber graphite shaft that's easy to swing, yet carries the power of the max size coated club head to provide the extra distance you can't get with any other club.
